Origin House Nolby

It once started with a small simple house. The staircase has now been placed in three places and the house has become spacious and modern.

How did House Nolby come about?

The brother of the owner from whom we bought our own house has written a book about all the houses in Mosstakan and the surrounding area. In it he also describes Huize Nolby.

It started in 1835. The land of Öststuga was divided and in 1850 a house called Nygård was built. Later the name became Nordby and it was subsequently changed to Nolby.

Build

The typical wooden house started small and simple. Over the years, rooms and spaces were added to the size it has today and that gives a playful layout to this characteristic house. 

Anecdote

You certainly shouldn’t drink coffee during fika. A friend of ours told a nice anecdote about this from when he was little: He was invited with his father for coffee. He knew you shouldn’t drink or eat anything there. The lady of the house gave him a glass of lemonade and his father a cup of coffee. Neither of them could turn down the cookie from her. When the lady of the house was out of the kitchen for a moment, the little man quickly put his biscuit in his pocket and poured his lemonade into the planter. He didn’t dare look at his father, afraid he would be punished for what he had done. When they were outside again, he saw to his great surprise that his father took the biscuit out of his pocket and threw it away for the birds. His father winked at him and then told the little boy it was good that he also put his cookie in his pocket. The little boy looked at his father and blushed, he had never seen his father throw away a cookie!

Emigration

We – Jürgen and Judith – emigrated to beautiful Sweden in November 2020, following our dream. We had many plans, but due to the corona pandemic we canceled many again. When we heard that Huize Nolby – the house next to us – was for sale, we took the opportunity and challenge to turn this into a holiday home.

In November 2020 we became the happy owners of Huize Nolby. The house was in a dilapidated state. The previous owner had fallen ill and left overnight. The house was then not looked at for four years. Everything was still as it was when he left. Even the eggs were still in a big pot on the stove. You can also imagine that the air was not to be hardened. It took us several months to get everything out of the house, clean and vermin-free and strip everything. We also drilled a new water source. With the help of friends and our children, we managed to convert the dilapidated house into the current nostalgic house.

Rental

As of 01-04-2023 House Nolby will be rented out and we hope to be able to infect you with the love for Sweden, the land of the eternally singing forests.
